A Glimpse
She had on a pretty yellow dress with spaghetti straps. I happened to glance up from my cell phone when I saw her.
The car wash was right in front of me. I just did a McDonald’s drive through for my favorite diet coke.
It’s the end of August and a gorgeous day. A gentle breeze, comfortable temperature and lots of luscious green trees.
She briefly jumped out of her car to dry off some of the wet spots from the car wash. Her image was inspiring. It was a perfect scene out of a movie. I replayed it in my head.
A beautiful, strong, self-sufficient young woman. She had a no-nonsense air intertwined with a gracefulness. It smacked me in the face that goodness is still alive and well.
A simple scene renewed my faith in humanity. Each day the news is getting more depressing. A number of children were shot and killed in a Catholic church while praying. How is this possible? Why and how does this keep happening? We don’t see it in other countries. Why in the United States?
I know being depressed isn’t the answer. But I don’t want to ignore the horror of reoccurring tragedies.
A friend sent me a UTube video showing an interview with a priest about the shooting. He said the violence is coming from The White House.
I totally agree. Our president encourages fear, hate and violence. Seeing military troops patrolling our streets is Un-American. It doesn’t promote a feeling of comfort and safety but one of fear and paranoia.
Remember when policemen were our friends? We looked to them for safety and protection. What do we think of when we see military soldiers with guns and their faces covered up? Why do they hide their faces from us? It’s similar to a thief who is stealing something from us. They’re stealing our freedom and sense of safety.
I’ve witnessed peaceful protests with signs of hope and love. I eagerly beep and wave. I admire the love and commitment a group of people have made to justice and decency. The numbers are growing. The majority of Americans are outraged by what is happening to our beloved country.
My prayers and hope is that we continue to grow in the direction of kindness, decency, inclusiveness and love for our fellow human beings. We all need to raise our voices and end this monstrous nightmareASAP.
